Agriculture in Yichang has been a success from the very start of this year. On April 17th, it was learnt from the Municipal Statistical Department that the total value of agricultural output has been about ￥6 billion in the first quarter with year-on-year growth of 5% at comparable prices and an added value of ￥3.8 billion.

　　Compared with the substantial increase last year, the amount of the beef cattle and the mutton sheep has soared in this quarter because of  the high price of the beef cattle and the mutton sheep, municipal and county-level policy support, and market supply stimulus during the Spring Festival. The amount of the beef cattle has added up to 11,500 with year-on-year growth of 65% and the mutton sheep is about 347,200 with year-on-year growth of 25%.

　　The amount of pigs has added up to 1.8 million with year-on-year growth of 4.5% because of the market supply stimulus during the Spring Festival. 

　　The area of vegetables production has achieved steady growth with a faster growing output. Consequently, the area of vegetables production has reached 41.8 million㎡ with year-on-year 4.9% growth of 19.6 million㎡ and the total output has achieved 928,900 tons with year-on-year 19.1% growth of 149,100 tons.

　　Against the background of slight reduction in the poultry production last year, the total output of the poultry in the first quarter this year is about 10.78 million with year-on-year growth of 24%, which manifests a rapid growth in the poultry production. Based on the steady growth in the output last year, the output of aquatic products in the first quarter has reached 46,800 tons with year-on-year growth of 7%, achieving sustainable steady growth. (Reporter: Gong Changjun and correspondent: Li Zuqun)
