During this time, more than 20,000 volumes (disc) of piracy and illegal publications were destroyed.
In recent years, Yichang government has been taking effective measures on checking the cultural market and managing the publication sources and has carried out a series of special actions to protect the intellectual property rights and to combat piracy and illegal publications. As a result, great achievements were made and Yichang is taking the leading role in this aspect in Hubei Province. Till present, Yichang Law Enforcement team and 9 county-level city Law Enforcement teams have dispatched more than 16,000 Law enforcement officers, seized 24106 illegal publications, including 11856 books, 7760 periodicals and newspapers and 4490 audiovisual products.
The centralized destruction showed the significant achievements that Yichang government has made in cracking down on piracy and illegal publications in the previous stage and denoted Yichang government’s attitude and determination to protect the intellectual property rights and fight against piracy. It is also a deterrent to those illegal activities. In the opening ceremony, Chen Xiangyang, deputy director of the leading group of “eliminating pornography and illegal publications” and control of the cultural market and deputy director general of the Culture (Press and Publication) Bureau of Yichang City, expressed his hope that all owners of culture products would run their businesses legally and consciously resist the infringement and piracy. He also hoped that the law enforcement officers would persist in administration by laws to fight against piracy. Finally , Chen hoped that through the way of promoting intellectual property rights, all citizens’ awareness of protecting intellectual property would be improved and everyone would learn the laws and apply what they learned into practice, resist and refuse piracy and actively help form the cultural atmosphere of “respecting knowledge, admiring innovation, and being honest and law-abiding”.
