(Xin Hua News Agency, June 6) On June 2, the Changjiang Resources Commission (CRC) flood prevention office conducted water flow controls for three times in order to reduce the water flow from the Three Gorges Reservoir. The flow decreased from 17,200 cubic meter per second to 7,000 cubic meter per second. Through this urgent approach, we presented a favorable circumstance for the search and rescue of the capsized vessel.
Chen Guiya, vice director of The Flood Prevention Office of Changjiang Resources Commission, explained that the water control of three gorges reservoir was implemented three times on the morning of June 2. The first time, the flow decreased from 17,200 cubic meter per second to 10,000 cubic meter per second; the second time, 10,000 cubic meter per second to 8,000 to10,000 cubic meter per second; the third time, 10,000 cubic meter per second to 7,000 cubic meter per second. At 12 o’clock on June 2, the water flow became 7,000 cubic meter per hour, and the CRC accomplished the three flow controls. Mr Chen said that the heavy rains made the water level on the rise. The emergent reduction of water flow from the reservoir could alleviate the uptrend tendency of the water level and also provide the search and rescue with a favorable condition.
