A new BRT vehicle together with a 12-meter-long upgraded bus pulled out from the parking lot of Yichangdong Railway Station at 14:30 on June 9. Guo Yong, who has 10 years driving experience, drove the bus along the rapid transit route of 22 bus stops, of which some are still under construction.
Guo is very familiar with the standard operation of pulling in, including pulling over, slowing down, aligning the stop line, stopping and opening the door. So it just took him five minutes from Yichangdong Railway Station to Juchenglu Stop.
The door opened. Passengers got off and walked into the station. Guo stood up and inspected the front door. He said the front door was upgraded from a single gate door to a folding door in order to facilitate the vehicle stopping.
There were also some problems, according to the staff from BRT Public Transport Management. Although 8 completed stops, from Juchenglu to Zhongnanlu, could basically put into use, some stations were still under construction. Besides, the zebra crossing and safety island need to be further improved and some private vehicles still drove on the BRT bus-only lanes.
Du Jun, deputy director of Municipal Road Transportation Administration Bureau, attended the events personally. The BRT first trial run from Yichangdong Railway Station to Gezhouba Roundabout was a preparation of the traffic pressure test next month. “The BRT will be put into use soon. We will solve the existing problems with some related departments. I believe the BRT will bring a fresh experience to the residents”, said him. (Reporter: Yan Xiaodong, Yang Ning and Xu Aiming)
