CPI Up 1.2% in May

  According to Yichang Investigation Team of State Statistics Bureau, CPI of Yichang urban area in May went up 1.2% compared to last May, down 0.6% compared to April.
  According to the statics, market supply of local vegetables increased in May, therefore, vegetable price lowered 10.2%, among which prices of fresh vegetables downed 10.7%.
  After a relative long period of downturn, pork price showed its rising trend in this month, up 2.5% month-on-month; and beef price also edged up 0.4%.
  Based on Cigarette Consumption Tax Adjustment Notice announced by the Ministry of Finance and State Administration of Taxation, tobacco price in May rose 4% month-on-month, with a respective increase of 4%, 4% and 3.1% on the high, medium and low-end cigarettes.
  Meanwhile, in the traditional "May Day" promotion season, prices of furniture and household electrical appliances dropped to varying degrees. Prices of furniture were down 1.9% month-on-month, among which tables, chairs and other furniture (for example mattress) fell 2.6%, 5.9% and 2.2% respectively. Prices of household electrical appliances, if compared to previous month, were down 2.8%  among which refrigerators, cookhoods and air-conditions fell 4.8%, 4.9% and 5% respectively.
  Influenced by the ending of medicine price ceiling in China, some medicine prices increased and upgraded. In Yichang health care price rose 2.6% month-on-month, among which antibiotics, digestive system drugs, cardiovascular drugs rose 9%, 8.5% and 8.4% respectively.
  In response to Chinese Premier Li Keqiang’s call of "boosting Internet speed while reducing cost", the three major domestic carriers proposed new charging plan. In May, communication prices in Yichang city fell 2.7%, among which the communication fee, monthly fee, Internet access fee of China Mobile downed 5.3%, 3.1% and 3.2% respectively.
  After the "May Day" minor vacation, there came the off-season travel, thus the air fare downed 23.6% month-on-month. (Reporter Pei Shujing; Correspondent Zou Jiao)
