Air quality in Yichang City has been improved in the first half year of 2015, significantly better than the same period in 2014, according to the air quality report  in urban areas of Yichang on July 7.　　 

97 Good Air Quality Days

In the first half year of 2015, good air quality days in the urban areas of Yichang City lasted for 97 days, with 40 days more than the same period in 2014. The rate of good air quality increased to 53.6 percent, with an increase of 22.1 percent.　　 

The average PM10 concentration in five major monitoring sites—Xiling District, Wujiagang District, Dianjun District, Yiling District and High-tech Zone—reached 132μg / m³ in the first half year of 2015, which decreased by 18.0 percent compared with the same period in 2014. While the average PM2.5 concentration reached 91μg / m³, decreasing by 19.5 percent compared with the same period in 2014. The average SO2 concentration was 28μg / m³, 54 percent lower than that of the same period in 2014. And the average NO2 concentration was 35μg / m³, decreasing by 7.9 percent compared with the same period in 2014. Except from PM2.5, another six indicators, SO2, NO2, O₃, CO had met the national air quality standards.

What’s more, we were glad to see that the good air quality day lasted for 28 days in June in Yichang City, 16 days more than the same period in 2014. The rate of good air quality reached 93.3 percent. 

Network for 16 environment monitoring sites

This year, Yichang has introduced a series of documents for air pollution control, implemented target responsibility system for air pollution, controlled the motor vehicle exhaust pollution, and carried out the management of gasoline recycling as well as the clean energy transformation.　

By the end of June, data of Yichang 16 automatic ambient air quality monitoring stations released though internet. “The 16 stations cover all counties of Yichang.” Wang Zheng, director of automatic detecting room of Yichang Environment Protection monitoring station explains, whenever the air quality appears abnormal after connected with internet, they can forecast which area may be influenced and how long it will last according to information about the pollutant like the trail and concentration, and take targeted measures, and the accuracy of forecasting and warning have been greatly increased.

In case of malicious violations, law enforcement in Yichang will be strictly and no tolerance. During the first half of this year, refers to illegal behaviors investigate and treat in companies related to discharge pollutants into the atmosphere, Yichang EPA have registered 38 cases, 26 of which were transferred to the police, and two cases got administrative penalty. Meanwhile, Yichang government also spares no effort to know social situation and public opinion through multiple channels, aiming at realizes that everyone protecting the environment and everyone enjoys environment protecting results.

Motor vehicle inspection will connect the internet in August.

In the next step, Yichang will continue to give full play to the role of science and technology support, and pay close attention to air pollution control.    

On July 7th, the reporter saw the vehicle exhaust pollution electronic monitoring information system just on the line of the Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau. In the motor vehicle inspection supervision page, the reporter saw a variety of information like license plate numbers, vehicle types, test methods and test stations. “If we have objection to the results of the annual inspection, the annual inspection results can be directly declared invalid” Air pollution prevention and control center stuff Liu Geng told the reporter, currently the city has 3 annual inspection sites and 20 ring networks, by the end of August all sites will connect the internet. At that time, the vehicle inspection will put an end to fraud aiming to prevent and control motor vehicle exhaust pollution from the source.
