According to the Municipal Development and Reform Commission, from January to August, the city\'s food & biological pharmaceutical industry output has valued 111.13 billion yuan, ranking first in the six large 100-billion industry and becoming the most rapidly developing competitive industries of the city.

The Food & biological pharmaceutical industry, which is closely related to microbial fermentation, is one of the six 100-billion industries built preferentially by Yichang city. In recent years, the municipal Party committee and municipal government have introduced a number of supportive policies fully cultivated the market main body to  and supported potentially qualified food & biological pharmaceutical companies in terms of capital, brand, technology, market, etc,to develop into big enterprise group  through cooperative ways of mergers and acquisitions, capital investment, joint venture. They have also adopted measures to accelerate the construction of regional innovation system, enhance the ability of independent innovation, support the establishment of high level R & D institutions, encourage the establishment of the Alliance for the innovation of industry and technology and form a new system of enterprise as the main body. Hubei Daohuaxiang Wine Industry Co., Ltd, Zhijiang Liquor Co.Ltd, HEC Pharm, Angel Yeast Co., Ltd, Yichang Humanwell Pharmaceutical Co, LTD, Yichang Sanxia Pharmaceutical Co., LTD, and other leading enterprises formed industrial clusters with particular resource advantage.

 As an important part of food & biological medicine industry in Yichang, the New Development Zone focus on adjusting the industrial structure, vigorously promoting the transformation and upgrading. Currently, there are 20 biological medical enterprises including Humanwell Pharmaceutical Co, LTD, Angel Yeast and other well-known enterprises. It is the first batch of biological medicine high-tech industrialization bases in Hubei Province, and several key projects have been put into operation such as  Angel Yeast Yichang Park, Humanwell Pharmaceutical Export Production Base, Amino Acid Production Base of Yichang Sanxia Pharmaceutical Co., LTD,  and projects initiated by Hubei Rightly Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd, Sino Group,, Longsheng Taike Medical LTD,, Ding Xin Biotechnology, Ziquan Beverage, An’neng Biomass Thermoelectric etc. (Reporters, Jin Guiman and Bian Jianxin)
