From October 24 to 25, the 2015 Annual Academic Conference of China Society for Microbiology themed with microbiology and sustainable development was held in Yichang. Over 1200 experts and scholars gathered together to discuss and exchange views upon the latest development and research achievements.

　　Deng Zixin, the director of China Society for Microbiology and academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered the opening speech. entrusted by Huang Chuping, the member of provincial party standing committee and municipal party secretary as well as Ma Xuming, the deputy municipal party secretary and the mayor, Song Wenbao, the member of municipal party standing committee and deputy mayor extended a warm welcome to the guests. Besides, deputy mayor Ma Yinghua also attended the conference.

　　Deng Zixin said in the speech that the Annual Academic Conference of China Society for Microbiology was the most influential annual event in the area of microbiology. The reason why the annual conference was held in Yichang lied in the fact that the bio-pharmaceutical industry represented by Angel Yeast had enjoyed rapid development. Its blossoming had attracted wide attention from the microbiological sector nationwide. He believed that the conference would inevitably promote the flourishing development of the microbiological cause in China as well as the industrial growth of biology in Yichang.

　　Song Wenbao introduced the socio-economic development conditions in Yichang. He said that till September, the GDP of Yichang gained an 8.9% increase. The city had obtained multiple honors, including National Health City, National Civilized City, National Environmental Protection Model City, National Forest City, National Garden City and National Best City for Investment. At present, many opportunities have opened up for Yichang. So He sincerely hoped that experts and scholars could seek their development in Yichang so as to realize the dream of innovation hand in hand.

　　Yu Xuefeng, president of Angel Yeast Co., Ltd, He Weijun, president and deputy party secretary of China Three Gorges University, Li Ying, inspector of provincial association for science and technology as well as Yuan Zhiming, director of the Wuhan Branch of Chinese Academy of Science gave speeches one after another. Xu Jianguo, director of National Institute for Communicable Disease Control and Prevention Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention as well as academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering attended the conference and made keynote reports. Surrounding the main agendas of the annual conference, six parallel sessions were set up for academic exchanges.

　　　The conference showed four highlights: the largest number of representatives reaching as many as 1200; the largest number of people who made reports, including one report of a precedent and his endeavor, four keynote reports, forty-two topic theme reports and ninety-eight session reports; the largest number of session topics, increasing from four to six; the largest number of conference paper abstracts exceeding 400, 392 of which were cataloged in the proceedings. In addition, it was the first time that keynote reports had been arranged in sessions.
