Night food stands are everywhere in cities; however, people keep a love-hate relationship with them. For food-goers, these food stands are dreamed places to eat but for others, they are nightmare due to the poor sanitation, traffic jams, and noises.

　　Recently, @Three Gorges Daily Official Weibo published a picture entitled "CBD night food got a fresh look” introducing night food stands remediation on the Hanyi Road at Xiling District. As a result, it sparked a hot debate.

　　What is the successful remediation experience of night food stands at Hanyi Road? Whether can its effect be maintained? Is there any space for improvement? Can it be applied to other night food stands? In terms of these issues, reporters conducted field visits around night food stands at Hanyi Road and interviewed the relevant departments.

　　On the spot: remediation effective

　　Over time, night food stands at Hanyi Road have changed constantly. For example, relevant departments not only have installed fumes purification equipment for city night food stands since May 2015, but also provided "food vendors registration card" in Sept to these stands so as to bring street food safety into supervision and regulation.

　　On the evening of October 25, reporters came to Hanyi Road and there was an eye-catching sign says: "Tieluba Snack Street". Going along the street, they found unified and standardized dinning carts and all booths retreated from the road outside, looking very tidy and beautiful.

　　There hangs a "food vendors registration card" on every dining cart, demonstrating the vendor’s name, person in charge, booth number, operating varieties, validity period and food safety guarantee. "Instead of a big iron wheel, the new cart with plastic wheel causes less noise”, said Mr. Weng, a food vendor there. He said though cost has increased per month after taking unified and standardized management, it is well worth because the improved environment will attract more people to consume. “Though came often before, the poor sanitation here always made us hesitated. Even if it looks neat after the remediation, we expect more improvement, for instance, timely cleaning oil on the ground" , said Mr. Su, a patron to the night food stands. He also told reporters he often brings out-of-town friends to eat at midnight there after the remediation, which is rather affordable and special.

　　Night food stands remediation not only needs to be approved by the "food-goers", but also the surrounding public’s recognition. "Though things turn better after the remediation, bad impacts still exist", said Mr. Cui, who lives near the night food stands. He also complained about the poor sanitation and noise, hoping the relevant departments to solve these problems.

　　Weibo users: environment sanitation still has room for improvement.

　　In the related Weibo comments which @ the official Weibo comments of Sanxia Daily, 169 Weibo users give thumbs to the comment and 68 users comments on it, among them 92.5 % of the users think that the night food stands remediation proves to be effective, 7.5 % of them expect further improvement in food quality and sanitation. Zui Shiyuan, a Weibo user, said that the food sanitation in night food stands isn’t very good because sometimes you would suffer a pain in your stomach after eating there. He also pointed out that although some vendors had obtained food registration card, government supervision and management should be stricter.

　　“I hope Hanyi Road become another pedestrian street prohibiting the use of vehicles in the future,” said a Weibo user, who was bugged a lot by vehicles horn blaring.

　　There are some Weibo users holding that smoke is the most urgent problem to be addressed immediately at the night food stands.

　　The Weibo user, Mr. Joy, said that nowadays CBD night food stands is much cleaner than before but the grease on the ground still can be seen easily and the effect won’t maintain a long time.

　　The user named Yu 1984 said that the residents living around are still bothered by the smoke problem and they can’t have the pleasure of a quiet night life.

　　The user named Oilpatel said that the problems of grease on the ground and smoke in the air are still bothering them.

　　Relevant Departments: further improvement to be made based on the citizens’ suggestions

　　In order to better regulate the night food stands at Hanyi Road, a night food stands management office was set by in November last year.

　　The remediation work will be divided into three stages, including publicity launch work, concentrated remediation work and standard management respectively, and the task will be finished within the year. “Although the remediation work of night food stands at Hanyi Road have achieved progress, there are still some problems need solve,” said Xu Jun, the squadron leader of city inspection school in Xiling District. He also added that by the improvement suggestions from the warm-kind residents the Night Food Stands Management Office has taken some relative measures. In order to address the smoke problem, the City Management Office help the businessman install the smoke purification conditioner. At present, eight conditioners have been set up and the effects are clear. As for the grease problem, they decide to use cleaner car to clean the street there at least three times on a large scale and at least 5 times partially within a month. For reducing the noise disturbing phenomenon, the workers from the City Supervision Office negotiate with the vendors to adjust the sound volume to a reasonable degree and they will confiscate the illegal used audio equipment.

　　In order to achieve the goal aiming at long-term standardized management, the Night Food Stands Management Office will also launch an assessment plan to examine these food stands from different aspects including the smoke problem, sanitation, illegal road occupation, unification of food carts, the documents and so on. When the assessment work finished, the office will publish the results and carry out relevant rewards and punishment.
