The Wufeng National Geological Park, authorized by the expert group from Ministry of Land and Resources (MLR), will be formally inaugurated and open to public in December. The park has been honored as the third national scenic spot in Wufeng following theHouhe National Nature Reserve and the Chaibuxi National Forest Park.

The expert group of MLR, led by professor TianMingzhong from China University of Geosciences (Beijing), has carried in investigation concerning the construction and management of theWufeng National Geological Park, the Chaibuxi National Forest Park, the Houhe National Nature Reserve and the Geological Museum. Eventually the Wufeng National Geological Park, with the score of 86, has been authorized by the expert group.

Famous for its mountains and fascinating rivers and streams, different geological features, it is a unique mountainous national geological park in western Hubei. The total area of Wufeng National Geological Park amounts to 194.75 square kilometers within three years.  

 It is a large scale structural Karst geological park with other important geological heritages such as complete Karst system, typical construction sites and geological stratotype profile. There are 77 geological heritage landscapes including Chaibuxi and Houhe national parks.

The Chaibuxi National Forest Park has gain publicity because of the canyon peak geological landforms which is known as “Secluded Gorge and Grotesque Peak”, early Paleozoic geological section, Karst caves, Karst natural stone bridges, the unique landscape of “Icy Caves in Summer” and the water erosion and other geological landscapes. Besides, the Houhe National Nature Reserve has been featured as rare flora and fauna, canyon cliffs landscape and Tujia ethnic customs. As the famous saying goes “The unique mountains stand with the veins and the secluded cliffs with the springs” in the park. In 2012 Wufeng National Geological Park was qualified to be under construction by the government and it has become the engine of tourism economy through the two-year construction and propaganda since then. The year 2014 witnessed a string of tremendous data －390,000 visitors home and abroad and112 million RMB tourism revenue .
