Literature Flowers Blossom in Yichang

The Yichang Municipal Writers Association, College of Humanity and Media of China Three Gorges University, Municipal Literary Theorist Association and Fiction Academy co-hosted the seminar about full-length novels Hekou chronicle and Blood-Stained Flowers at China Three Gorges University on December 5. More than 30 famous writers from various cities and province attended the seminar and made speeches.

Hekou Chronicle, written byYichang famous writer Yan Gang, Vice Chairman of Municipal Writers Association and Chairman of Literature Art Association of Xiling District, tells about the living conditions and fates of three families and four generations in the rural estuary, located in the intersection of the Qingjiang River and the Yangtze River. The families witnessed the rural reforms in middle reaches of the Yangtze River and expressed the intimate connections among good and bad people, land and social instability. The serial originally named The Soul of Hekouis completed this year in Novel Monthly getting the high praise among readers.

The full-length novel Blood-Stained Flowers, written by Zhou Shihua, Vice Chairman of Municipal Fiction Academy and Vice Chairman of Literature Art Association of Yiling District, tells the war stories happening in Yiling District. The author was inspired by the event that 3000 remains of the martyrs were discovered at the construction site of Yiba highway in YilingDistrct in September 2010. The novel with a total of 220,000 words was published inThe Yangtze River Periodicals in September this year.

More than 30 famous writers and experts from Provincial and Municipal Writers Association, Literature Art Association, The Yangtze River Periodicals, Fragrant Grass Magazine, College of Literature of Central China Normal University and College of Art and Communication of China Three Gorges University fully affirmed the creation of the two novels and spoke highly of Yan Gang and Zhou Shihua who got the inspiration from the normal life, experienced local people’s life, researched the history and strove to plant the literature flowers in the fertile soil of Yichang culture and history. At the same time, they gave some poignant suggestions and expressed their sincere wishes to the further improvements.

Liang Biwen, Vice Chairmen of Provencal Writers Association and Deputy Secretary of Party Committee, said that Yan Gang’s Hekou chronicle stands out from more than 100 works and becomes one of the 20 works supported and guided by Provencal Writers Association in the topic selection and bidding of the second Hubei Provence Full-Length Novels Key Support Programs which advocated originality based on local cultures. The novel vividly shows the history and reality of Hubei Provence in both spectacular and contemporary ways. (Reporter Huang Chunmei)
