According to the news from Working Conference of the Three Gorges Navigation Bureau in 2016 held yesterday, the ship-lock throughputs of Three Gorges Ship Lock and Gezhouba Ship Lock both exceeded 100 million tons again since 2013 and 2014, being respectively 119.6 million tons and 117.2 million tons. In the past five years, neither a single water traffic accident or a fatal accident, nor floating ship striking dam accident or contamination accident happened in Three Gorges river reach. 17 severe incidents were discovered in time and successfully treated. 20 ships and 1,424 people in distress were rescued. Direct economic loss valued 5.2 million yuan was saved. Comparing to that of the 11th Five-Year Plan, the number of water traffic, death toll, sunken ship and direct economic loss has respectively declined 37.5%, 94.7%, 20% and 74.1%, making the Three Gorges a safe and steady navigation section.
