In 2015, Yiling District attracted 10,540,000 tourists and the tourism revenues reached 1,597,100,000 dollars, with the year-on-year growth of 21% and 42% respectively. With the comprehensive tourism revenues accounting for 17% of the GDP, Yiling District ranked among China Top 100 counties in tourist industry. Yiling District won the title of “the 2015 Beautiful China Top Ten Tourism Counties” at the Fifth Chinese Tourism Industry Development Conference.

In recent years, Yiling District has vigorously implemented the strategy of urban and rural developing as a whole and developed the tourism industry as the guiding industry. It developed the tendency of global tourism through scenic visiting and rural visiting. Yiling District ranked the first in the satisfaction measurement of Hubei Province in two consecutive years and was awarded the Popular Tourist Destination of Hubei and Outstanding Contribution County to Tourist Industry Development of Hubei. Its comprehensive strength in tourism ranked top among counties throughout the province.

Yiling District focused on the theme of a pleasant place for living, working and traveling, compiled the area plan, and extended the concept of global tourism to all day long, all time periods and all markets. Travel planning combined with regional planning, land use planning, traffic planning, culture industry planning and the new rural construction planning, tourism industry developed with others as a whole. Some towns with the rich tourism resources, good development foundation and market prospects even complied the special planning for tourism.

Yiling District, sticks to utilizing Yiling unique resources and brand advantages, puts tourism elements into the urban construction project, agricultural development project and industrial development project and strives to make sure that every village and every infrastructure in every community has tourism function and element which can both meet the working and living needs of the mass and the demands of the scenic area development and tourists. It tries to accelerate the development of agriculture and tourism and further promote the transformation and upgrading of tourism industry by integrating project funds, establishing a diversified investment mechanism and perfecting rural tourism infrastructure construction.

At present, Yiling District has built 18 scenic areas opening to the outside world including two national 5 A scenic spots and four national 4 A scenic spots. It has formed six tourism routes including leisure sports tourism and colorful rural tourism. San Douping County and Guanzhuang Village are respectively awarded the National Tourist Town with Characteristics and China Rural Tourism Model Village.
