On January 18th, it is learned that, from 17th to 18th 9 o’clock, our city air was fine, but from 10 a.m, its quality index was gradually affected by the exogenous pollution. At 11, the air is heavily polluted, and at 15, its quality index rose to 313, ranked seriously polluted with the chief pollutant being PM 2.5.
　　According to the analysis of the environment protection and monitoring station, on 17th and 18th, the neighboring cities such as Shiyan, Xiangyang, Jingzhou and Jingmen were heavily polluted by the northern polluted air mass. The meteorological observation on the 18th shows that as the northerly wind becomes continuously stronger, no precipitation and the southward movement of the polluted air mass will rapidly increase the polluted air concentration in our city. It predicts that before 19th, the weather conditions are still not conducive to the dilution, diffusion and clearance of the contaminated air and the polluted weather will continue, and the air quality will not improve much. The municipal weather bureau forecasts that the air quality may improve under the influence of the precipitation and the good diffusion from 20th to 21th. They suggest that children, old men, patients with heart and lung troubles should stay indoors and stop outdoor activities while ordinary people should reduce their outdoor activities.　　 
　　Because of the recent air pollution and the constant influence by the north polluted air mass, Yichang has initiated the mandatory emission reduction of air pollution from 15th as follows: imposing the mandatory emission reduction of air pollution on the relevant enterprises according to the second level control request, ordering the enterprises with improper environmental protective operating and substandard pollutant emission to stop production for rectification, no operation such as earthwork and building demolition, banning large trucks and large vans carrying categories of bulk materials, coals, slags and sandy soil from the city, forbidding yellow label cars from entering the restricted areas, more road sweeping and more water spraying.
