Yichang municipal government convened exclusively on the BRT and its ancillary projects on January 19th, to review the construction and half-year operation of the BRT and to push ahead the construction the Yeminzhu section and Yiling section and their ancillary projects.

Mao Chuanqiang, the municipal committee member and vice mayor, demands that a conscientious summary be made of Yichang green transportation and BRT construction experiences and that greater efforts be made to enhance publicity and to strengthen confidence, and that the highest standards and most advanced idea be unremittingly insisted on in the city development and the construction, operation and management of the BRT so as to improve the plan and construction of Yichang green transportation to a new level and match with the international award.

During the half-year operation of Dongshan Avenue BRT system, the Public Transit Group has amalgamated more than 30 bus lines and the bus speed has increased from 10-15 km/h to 20-25 km/h so that the time for the whole trip has been reduced by 40%. By the end of December, 2015, 42,980,000 passengers have been transited through the BRT system with an average of 240,000 riders each day, which accounts for nearly half of the urban public transport.

On January 13th, Yichang won the 2016 World Sustainable Transport Award by its BRT system, bus leading development, cycling and parking reform improvements. According to the BRT headquarters, the installation of escalators and the construction of public bicycle service demonstrative spots, shelters and other ancillary projects started successively since November last year, and the safety inspection of the escalators and tail-in work of sidewalk will be completed befor the 20th this month. So far, over 400 bicycle stands in 24 public bicycle service spots along the Dongshan Avenue has been basically completed and so it is with the tail-in work of the sidewalks. The main structures of the BRT shelters at Yichang Bus Terminal and No.22 Middle School station have been constructed. The rest work such as canopy glass and perforated aluminum installation and pavement restoration work will be finished by the end of this month. Parts of markings, signs and fence rectification, Shengli Third road’s traffic organization adjustment, the door frame fabrication and installation will be completed before the 25th this month; upper probe, a reverse capture traffic engineering’s ending work, motor room in B1 platform and related equipment of security door installation will also be completed before  the 31st of this month. The reconstruction of Yiling passenger station (the terminal station of BRT) has stepped into the final sprint. The paving and greening of the square in front the station have already been completed, the steeled BRT station platforms are under preliminary test run conditions, and the shelters are expected to put into use by the end of January. Meanwhile, further efforts are to be made to improve the traffic organization and management within the BRT corridors of Yiling section. All these measures are taken to ensure the delivery of the station for use on the 19th of January, aiming to ease the upcoming transportation pressure on the Spring Festival. Up to now, 90% of Ye Minzhu’s land expropriation and 45% of the total 92 pile foundation of bridge engineering have been finished, while 600 meters of the comprehensive pipe canal in the roadbed engineering has been completed, accounting for 30% of the total, and 35% of the 35620m3 slope excavation has been finished. The whole construction is rapidly advancing.  On September 26th, 2016, the World Sustainable Transport Summit will be held in Yichang, before which, the riverside bike lanes and slow line facilities are to be perfected and the pedestrian surroundings around the demonstrative BRT station is to be improved and 1or 2 branch lines are to be chosen to connect the BRT bike lanes with the riverside bikeways.
