On Jan. 28th, the municipal government and ITDP held a signing ceremony of strategic cooperation memorandum in the urban area, expanding in-depth cooperation in terms of the research design of Yichang BRT, transit-oriented development and green development. Mao Chuanqiang, vice mayor and member of standing committee of municipal committee, and ClaytonLane, CEO of ITDP attended the ceremony.

Mao pointed out that since the launch of Yichang BRT in 2012, ITDP contributed a lot to the smooth implementation of Yichang BRT project and green development in the city, making Yichang City honored with Sustainable Transport Award of 2016 by top ten international authorities. He showed that Yichang would like to have a good cooperation with ITDP in terms of network planning, design, implementation and operation of BRT in the late period, the improvement of pedestrian and bicycle facilities, transit-oriented development and so on, in the hope of building Yichang as a model city of sustainable transportation and green development in China and even around the world.

ClaytonLane said ITDP has sincerely cooperated with Yichang and made a lot of achievements in the recent three years. ITDP will continue to conduct in-depth cooperation with Yichang, further optimize roads around bus stations, explore mixed-use and development of the land along the bus lanes, strengthen parking management and parking policy research, and explore selection of BRT corridor in the second stage and its relevant research, pushing forward green commuting in Yichang. They will jointly welcome World Sustainable Transportation Summit held on Sept. 26th in Yichang and spread construction experience of Yichang to China and Southeastern countries.

The signing of strategic agreement memorandum aims to reduce urban traffic congestion by adopting urban green development strategies. Cooperation includes perfection of BRT system in the first stage, completion of pedestrian and bicycle facilities and urban design, transit-oriented development and traffic demand management strategies, planning, design, implementation and operation of BRT in the second stage, assessment analysis of the project influence, the propaganda and promotion of Yichang as a model city of sustainable transportation and green development, the building of a wider BRT network of high quality by perfecting a model BRT lane in Dongshan Avenue, and the implementation of relevant transit-oriented development strategy. In this way, the positive influence of BRT system can be maximized and Yichang can be a model city in China and even around the world.  (Reporter: Lei Pengcheng)
