Railway officials said that the Wanzhou Section of Zhengzhou-Wanzhou railway has started construction on February 16. As an important integrate of the national large corridor of Beijing-Zhengzhou-Chongqing-Yunnan and Shanghai-Wuhan-Chongqing-Chengdu-Tibet, Zhengzhou-Wanzhou railway has an important strategic significance in constructing an external high-speed railway in Chongqing and the Three Gorges reservoir central region.　　 
　　Wanzhou Railway Office explained that Zhengzhou-Wanzhou railway, which is a double-tracked high-speed railway and 818 km long, starts from Zhengzhou East Railway Station to Chongqing, via Henan and Hubei province, with the design speed of 350 km/h and the initial operation running speed of 300km/h. And the design annual railway capacity is 60 million. The Chongqing inside line is about 181km with 4 stops including Wushan, Fengjie, Yunyang and Wanzhou North. 
　　Zhengzhou-Wanzhou high-speed railway will be completed after 6 years of construction in 2021.Once completed, it will link up with Chongqing-Wanzhou Intercity Railroad in Wanzhou district. Chongqing-Wanzhou line, expected to complete by the end of the year, is of 247km and the design speed of 250 km per hour. It is said that it will only take one hour Chongqing to Wanzhou by D-train once it is opened to traffic.
　　After the opening of Zhengzhou-Wanzhou high-speed railway, travel time between Wanzhou and Zhengzhou will be shortened from 9 hours to 4 hours, Wanzhou and Beijing 12 hours to about 6 hours. Meanwhile, travel time from Wanzhou to Chongqing, Yichang will be shorten to 1 hour. In addition, travel time to Chengdu and Wuhan will just need 2 hours and only 6 hours to Shanghai and Guangzhou.
　　Wanzhou Railway Office introduced, as an extension of Chongqing-Wanzhou Intercity Railroad, Zhengzhou-Wanzhou high-speed railway will work together with it to constitute passenger railroad big passage throughout the reservoir, thus ending the history of non-opening high-speed railway of Three Gorges reservoir central region. Once completed, Zhengzhou-Wanzhou high-speed railway will greatly enhance economic and cultural exchanges of Three Gorges reservoir area with the outside world and prompt the development of reservoir regional economy. (From: www.cctv.com)
