The State Council held a video and telephone conference on February 23rd for advancing the development of new-type urbanization, by which overall arrangements have been made to accomplish this goal. Song Wenbao, executive vice mayor and member of standing committee of Yichang Municipal Party Committee, attended the Yichang session.

The meeting pointed out that as the driving force of economic development and an important livelihood project, new-type urbanization of great potential for domestic demand is essential for modernization. With new-type urbanization as the core, quality improvement as the key factor and institutional mechanism reform as the driving force, efforts should be made to accelerate the reform of household registration system, to improve the comprehensive carrying capacity of cities and to establish and perfect the supporting policy of land, finance and investment and financing, which can fully realize the great potential for domestic demand of new-type urbanization, thus providing lasting and strong momentum for sustaining the sound economic development.

With its average annual increase of 1.5 percentage point compared with the period of the end of “11th Five-Year Plan”, Yichang’s urbanization rate has been over 55%, slightly higher than the national average, at the mid-to-upper level in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River by 2015. Currently, based on the need of development in Yichang, deliberate researches and arrangement have initially given rise to the major project library of urbanization construction which significantly underpins new-type urbanization construction during the period of the “13th Five-Year Plan”. Such project library is divided into 7 categories of 88 key projects with the total investment of 250b yuan, including projects of road and bridge construction projects, urban greenway construction, landscape construction, municipal public facilities construction, large-scale public building and urban complex construction, real estate and housing and rural construction. (Reporter: Wang Suzhi, Correspondent: Guo Zhenlei)
