CPI Up 2.2% in April 2016

According to the Yichang Survey Team of National Bureau of Statics of the People’s Republic of China on 12th May, the urban CPI of Yichang rose 2.2% in April than the same month last year, fell by 0.4% than last month. The margin of increase fell by 0.2% than that of March of the previous year. The decline margin fell by 0.2% than that of March. Rise in food prices is major factor of the rise of the total index.

The prices of potatos continued to rise but vegetable prices dropped remarkably. In April, local fruits and vegetables were in the market in a large amount with the temperature rising, so that their prices dropped significantly. To be specific, the prices of vegetables of this month fell by 10.6% month-on-month. However, potato prices stayed at a high level which rose by 16.5% month-on-month.

The prices of pork and beef remained high. At present, the prices of pork are in an uptrend, and the prices remained high in April, rose by 0.9% month-on-month.

There has been a rebound in prices of aquatic products since the scooping the fishes during the Spring Festival had reduced the the freshwater fish production in April, so that the prices of aquatic products keeps rising. And the prices of freshwater fish rose by 3.3% month-on-month.

The price of eggs keeps dropping because of the downward demand after the Spring Festival and the the increase of egg production as the weather gets warmer, so that egg prices fell by 4% month-on-month in April.

The prices of tourism and hotels rose during the May Day. The hikes in the prices of travel agency were high, for example, the ticket price of the Three Gorges Dam scenic area rises from 100 yuan up to 210 yuan for a one-day tour so that the tourism price rose by 1.6% month-on-month according to the weighted term. The margin of increase ranged from 20 to 50 yuan per room of three-star hotels, and the margin of increase were about 100 yuan per room for four-star hotels and even so, the four-star hotels were booked up.
