Urban CPI Up 2.4% in May
2016-06-29 08:50:15
According to the Yichang Investigation Team affiliated with the National Bureau of Statistics, the Urban CPI rose 2.4% in May compared with the same month last year and declined 0.2% than that in April, with an increase on a year-on-year basis by 0.2% than that in April and a decrease on link relative ratio by 0.2% than that in April. The rise of food and housing prices is the main factor pushing up the overall index.
The price of tuber crop continued to increase, while the price of fresh vegetables kept falling. In May, with sufficient rainfall, the market supply of fruits and vegetables was in rise, and their prices continued to fall. The fresh-vegetable price of this month was down 17% compared with that of last month. Although a large number of potatoes went to the market and relaxed the market supply, the price of potatoes dropped significantly; however, the sweet-potato price continued to rise, and the price of tuber crop rose 7.7% compared with last month.
Pork prices continued to rise. At present, it’s still in the rising channel of “Pork Cycle”, so the pork price was relatively high in May, rising 5.1% than that of April. Under this influence, the price of meat and its by-products increased by 3.1% compared with last month.
The price of aquatic products rose rapidly. After the Spring Festival, the output of freshwater fish in the market declined, but the aquatic-product price rebounded quickly, which led to the price of freshwater fish rising 10.6% than that of April.
The fresh-fruit price was in rise. The heavy rainfall in May resulted in the output decline of fruits, so the price of fresh fruits increased by 6.9%.
In addition, after the May Day holiday, the travel expenses and hotel accommodation prices dropped significantly. The travel expanses and other travel prices fell 2.6% and 17.8% respectively, and meanwhile, the hotel accommodation prices fell 1.9%. (Reporter: Pei Shujing; correspondent: Zou Jiao)
