The Urban CPI Rising 2.2% in June

  According to the Yichang Investigation Team affiliated with the National Bureau of Statistics, the Urban CPI rose 2.2% in May compared with the same month last year, and remained the same on a month-to-month basis, with the increase on year-on-year basis shrinking 0.2% than that in May. The rise of food prices is still the main factor pushing up the overall index.

  The price of potatoes continued to increase, while that of fresh vegetables kept falling. In June, with sufficient rainfall, the market supply of fruits and vegetables was in rise, and their prices continued to fall. The fresh-vegetable price of this month was down 12% on a month-on-month basis. The sweet-potato price continued to rise, and the price of potatoes rose 3.7% on a month-to-month basis.

  Pork price continued to rise, which was relatively high in June, rising 7.8% on a month-to-month basis. At the same time, since the freshwater fish is the substitute of household consumption, its price rose 14.7% on a month-to-month basis.

  The fresh-fruit price has gone higher. The heavy rainfall in June resulted in the output decline of fruits, so the price of fresh fruits increased by 3.3% on a month-to-month basis.

  The price of decoration materials decreased. Under the influence of real estate market, the building materials fell slightly this month. The prices of wood floor and ceramic tile declined 3.8% and 2.1%respectively in June.

  The furniture price declined. In June, the companies like Ouyad launched promotion activities and offered 50% off discount for some products, resulting in 5.1% decline of furniture price on a month-to-month basis. (Reporter: Pei Shujing; correspondent: Zou Jiao)
