According to the Municipal Price Bureau, the consumption price in the urban area was basically stable with 2.1% up in the first half year. According to the statistics, the tension source of the pork price and strong rebound in pork price are the major factors for the rise in pork price.

　　The pork price rose while the beef and mutton price were stable. According to the data, the average price of the hog in the urban area from January to June was 9.09 yuan per 500 gram, 45.1% up compared with the data in last year. The lean pork price was 18.4 yuan per 500 gram, 19.3% up; the price for pork ribs was 19.6 yuan per 500 gram, 21.2% up. The egg price declined and the price for some aquatic products rose slightly. The egg price was 5.52 yuan per 500 gram with a slight decrease of 18.1%. The price for carp was 8.26 yuan per 500 gram, 14.7% up.

　　The staff from the Municipal Price Bureau expected that the pork price at the first stage continued its downturn therefore some hog farmers quit the market. In the north, farmers were reluctant to sell hogs because of the rising medication cost caused by the frequent disease period. The pork supply was dramatically tightening thus the price in the future will continue to rise definitely.
