Although it is autumn now, it is still hot during the day. Qu Jiaming, the secretary of the Party branch of Wangusi Village in Guizhou Town, Zigui County, has been busy these days singing the evocation songs and training for the Dragon Boat race on Xiangxi River with nearly 20 local men. He plans for the social and economic development of the village by way of inheriting Qu Yuan culture and carrying forward Qu’s spirit so as to build in the end his village into a most attractive one ---- China’s First Qu Village.

　　Wangusi Village in Guizhou Town, is Qu yuan’s ancestral home with over 60% villagers carrying Qu as their surnames. Thus it is indeed China’s First Qu Village. Last November, Zigui County’s Bureau of Sports released an official document slating Wangusi Village as Zigui County Dragon Boat Race Training Base. It also donated a steel Dragon Boat to the village for training, one which was used in real race.

　　Training for the Dragon Boat race and building three race teams with their characteristics are only the start for Wangusi Village to pass on Qu Yuan culture and to plot the village development.

　　Qu Jiaming has his plan on how to create a strong atmosphere for such a Number One village. His first step is to build Qu’s ancestral hall by rebuilding and expanding the old one, which dates back to Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty, so that descendants of Qu can seek their roots here. His second step is to continue Qu’s genealogy by sorting out not only Qu’s family tree of Wangusi Village but also that of Zigui County. The third is for the villagers to enshrine Qu Yuan by his bronze statues to fully show his romanticism, his optimism and his passion. Reciting Quyuan’s poetry and verses is the fourth step. All the villagers, men or women, young or old will be taught Qu Yuan culture by reading and reciting Qu Yuan’s poems. The final step is to inherit Qu's patriotism, loyalty, research and innovation spirit and to carry on his family tradition of anti-corruption, simplicity, farming-reading and loyalty---- to turn their village into a beautiful land under the guidance of Qu’s spirit.

　　In recent years, aiming at building the village into one with well-built public facilities, eco-cultural tourism, beautiful environment and harmonious civilization, the villagers have succeeded in raising funds from multiple sources and have broken the bottleneck in such infrastructure construction as road building, safe drinking water and stable electricity supply. The village has also held orange picking activities to propagate its Qu Yuan culture, its immigrant culture and its orange culture and has been working hard to step towards a rich and unique village with integrated tourism, agriculture and agricultural products development.
