On September 20th, the construction of the Tongzhuang River Bridge in the Three Gorges Reservoir was formally launched in Zigui County.

The Tongzhuang River Bridge, located in Guojiaba Town, Zigui County, spans the Tongzhuang River and connects Dengjiapo Village with Toudaohe Village in Guojiaba Town. The bridge covers a length of 651 meters, with its main bridge (double-tower and double-cable plane concrete cable stayed bridge) of 610 meters and approach bridge (pre-stressed in-situ reinforced concrete box girder) of 30 meters. With a total length of 1,471 meters, it extends 345 meters to G348 on the right side, and 1,126 meters to the Tongchu Road, a highway in Guojiaba Town on the left side. Based on the design of tertiary highways, it uses 65,000 cubic meters of concrete in total. It is expected to be completed in June, 2019, with 32 months of construction period.

It is learned that Tongzhuang River, a natural barrier, has seriously affected the economic and social development on both sides of the river as well as villagers’ work and life for a long time. What’s worse, after the impoundment of the Three Gorges Reservoir, it has become extremely difficult for the people on both sides to cross the river. The Tongzhuang River Bridge construction is a controlling project in the riverbank road construction and a key project in the follow-up planning of the Three Gorges. Its completion will not only make it easier for people on both sides to travel, but also have the following benefits: to improve overall transportation network within the county, to speed up the construction of the regional tourism, and to promote both the economic development of the reservoir and the prosperity and the stability of migrants.
