A 74-km Ecological Dyke Top Road Built in Bailizhou
2016-11-14 11:46:14
On November 1st, over a dozen of amateur cyclists went cycling around Bailizhou, listening to the rhythmic patting of waves, enjoining rural scenery and experiencing green travel. “It’s really a kind of enjoyment to walk on this road around the island.” said Xiong Ming, one of the bike riders.
The 74-km road built around this largest central bar on the Yangtze River, has a width-limit of 2.2m, with 24 bends, the sharpest of which reaches 90 degrees, making the road narrow and unsafe.
To fully exploit Bailizhou’s unique geographical endowments and ecological advantages without industrial pollution, Zhijiang City, has since 2010 successfully held Bicycle Tournament around Balizhou seven times, which attracted thousands of contestants from all over the world. And the cycling track has been selected into Chinese Sports Tourism Boutique Routs from 2014 to 2016 for three consecutive years, and has become a splendid business card for Yichang’s sports and tourism.
Zhijiang Municipal Party Committee and the City Hall have decided to integrate the Bicycle Tournament around Balizhou into the city’s eco-tourism, with the first step being to upgrade the dyke top road through a 40- million-yuan investment on the road widening and its brushing black.
According to the statistics, over 10 thousand people go cycling around Bailizhou annually, which boosts the development of the local catering services such as agri-tourism. There are 390 three-star agri-tourisms in Zhijiang, with more than 20 of them located in Bailizhou, each making an annual profit of about 20 million yuan.
