Dec 1st is the 29th WAD (World AIDS Day) with the theme of “Anti-AIDS together, focusing on prevention.” The journalist learned from the city official AIDS Office that until October, 2016, there are 631 survivals of HIV infection and patients, 123 cases newly increased, and 51 AIDS patients.
The main transmissions of the HIV infections and patients newly reported are mainly sexual transmission, among which the heterosexual transmission has 69 cases and occupy 56.10% of all infection transmissions; homosexual transmission has 52 and occupy 42.28%, each of drug-injecting transmission and mother to child transmission has one case, and occupies 0.81 % respectively. According to the excerpts from the city official AIDS Office, our city’s AIDS epidemic characteristics are as follows: (1) a trend of low prevalence and high growth; (2) upward trend of sexual transmission, especially heterosexual transmission with the annual growth rate of 4.81 percent in the past five years; (3) male AIDS patients taking up the majority; (4) high rate of late infection; (5) spreading from high-risk groups to the general population. Among the newly reported AIDS cases, the proportion of people over 50 years old in the high age group increased significantly compared with the same period last year.
To maximize the detection of infected people and patients, our city implemented the "detection as intervention" strategy and constantly improved the AIDS monitoring and detection network with a total establishment of 1 AIDS confirmation laboratory, 40 AIDS screening laboratories and 102 AIDS rapid detection spots. We also actively carried out active AIDS monitoring, so that the community health centers and township hospitals could develop full-coverage rapid AIDS testing and counseling services.
In order to reduce the mortality rate of AIDS, our city also implemented the “treatment as prevention” strategy in September 2015, taking the lead in practicing the new “treatment-prevention cooperation” mode of AIDS prevention and control including the “prevention” of the disease control institutions, “treatment” of the designated hospitals and “control” of the primary health care institutions, which reduced the harm of AIDS on people’s health, and achieve the integrated services of AIDS infected patients and patients from the discovery to the management and one-stop antiviral treatment services. Up to October 2016, the total number of the antiviral treatment has reached 684 in our city, with a treatment coverage rate of 86.07%. AIDS mortality in 2015 decreased by 13.49% compared with that in 2004.
