On March 7th, Hubei Three Gorges Modern Logistics co., ltd signed a cooperation agreement with China Railway 20 Bureau Group to jointly invest in the construction and operation of logistics industrial park port special railway over Three Gorges Dam. The railway will start construction before the end of this year.
The railway is an important component of the south Yangtze River Three Gorges transportation project, with an investment of 3.297 billion yuan and a total length of 42.56 km. It is in grade II, starting from Yichang-Wanzhou railway of Yichang South Railway Station, via Dianjun District and Yiling District, to Maoping port logistics park over Three Gorges Dam in Zigui county.
It is learned that, according to the maximum design capacity of the Three Gorges Dam, its permanent ship lock will reach the limit value of 100 million tons in 2030. However, in 2011, the goods shipment capacity of Three Gorges Dam ship lock has reached its limit, 19 years ahead of schedule. Since 2012, the upper and lower reaches in Three Gorges Dam often overstock a large number of ships. To make Yangtze River drag-free for the goods shipment, the state approved the implementation of the construction of the Three Gorges transportation system and started the special railway project.
At present, the project’s pre-feasibility study report has been completed and passed the examination. In addition, the standards of connection with Yichang-Wanzhou railway of Yichang South Railway Station have been approved by Wuhan Railway Bureau, and some works like project feasibility study and geological survey are being carried out. The whole project is going well. (Reporter Tang Yigui, correspondent Wu Yan)
