This year’s dragon boat festival activities were held in Zigui, Qu Yuan’s hometown. Beside some traditional activities like boat racing, some new elements, such as animation and delicacies were also added. On May 29th, with the combination of traditional festival culture and modern Cosplay show, the dragon boat festival animation carnival, held in the Nanmen plaza of Qu Yuan temple in Zigui county, aroused more young people awareness to inherit the culture of dragon boat festival.
Many tourists were attracted by the cosplay show of the 60 cosers at the event. In addition, many tourists created their own cartoon images of Qu Yuan on canvas at the “Qu animation creation” activity. Of all the images, a little comic image named Chu Li became the star of animation carnival. And it was specifically designed by organizers of Chinese talented people circle, film animation division and radio animation culture studio for the activity.
At the event, there were antique stall, blessing and prayer stall, cultural experience stall and creative exhibition stalls, displaying thousands of ornaments, dolls, sachets and other products. Zongzi with animation elements newly launched by Qu Gu group were popular with tourists; the collection manual of “Qu Yuan's weekly poetry appreciation” produced by Chinese talented people circle, film animation division, with lively and lovely comic elements embellishment, gave young readers different feelings.
This year, the catering enterprises in Zigui county have launched “Qu Yuan family cuisine” with Xiajiang food culture, not only reproducing the mysterious menu in The Songs of Chu, but also reflecting Xiajiang people’s food culture formed during thousands of years’ working life. Among the delicacies, a dish with the ingredient of stones causes heated discussion and it is the special dish of Xiajiang boatmen. At that time, there was no enough food, so cooks made dishes with the special stones in green beach plus a variety of seasonings, and the boatmen sucked the seasonings with beers. Now considering people’s safety, spicy escargots are used to replace stones, so visitors can taste the delicious escargots, but also experience the Xiajiang boatmen’s food culture.
On the basis of 108 dishes in 2016 “Qu Yuan family cuisine”, a table of dishes with the Chu culture and local characteristics was selected after being screened and refined. These dishes not only contained the cultural elements, but also cover Zigui dishes with local flavors like stewed smoked pork hock, which was smoked by branches of Zigui navel oranges, tasted crisp and looked appealing.
