An ecological parking lot, which is energy-conserving and environment-friendly, is to be built in Moji Hill Park. The reporter learned that 16 seedlings of camphor trees and hackberries have already been transplanted in place on June 8.
In hot summer, even if a car is parked outside for a short period of time, the temperature inside it will go up sharply. In that case, the driver has to turn on the air-conditioner to reduce the heat in it. But in doing so, more gasoline will be consumed and more exhausts will be emitted into the air and thus cause air pollution. In order to reduce the consumption of energy and air pollution as well, the Bureau of Urban Utilities and Landscaping (BUUL) of Yichang has planned to plant 677 trees of 15 species in the parking lot of Moji Hill Park. Among them, more than 100 ficus lacors, which is characteristics of fast growth, dense foliage and high temperature resistance, are to be planted around over 150 parking spaces. These trees will provide shade for parked cars and reduce the heat inside them. All the trees planted in the ecological parking lot can help conserve water and soil, and purify air. Apart from those trees, the rainwater collection and drainage system in the parking lot will also contribute to environmental protection.
During the process of tree transplanting, every selected seedling of ficus lacors has reached a DBH of 20cm, a height of 6m to 7m, and a width of 3.5m to 4m, for those seedlings can grow into tall and shady trees in a short period of time.
In addition to Moji Hill Park, the first and fourth tenders of Qiuyutai Park, the entrance of valleys in the east and the west of Moji Hill Park, the Yunhe Park and the East Railway Station in Yichang all have built the same type of ecological parking lots.
