High-Yield Shale Gas Reservoir Discovered in Yichang
2017-07-24 17:45:40

On July 7, China Geological Survey of Ministry of Land and Resources held the “Hubei Yichang Seminar of Important Breakthrough Achievements on the Survey of ReservoirⅠ Shale Gas” in Beijing, and announced that after Hubei Yichang ReservoirⅠ which was located in Dianjun District of Yichang was tested, each reservoir was expected to become the new industrial gas reservoir with the high-yield shale gas of 60,200 cubic meters per day and the 123,800 cubic meters of unobstructed air-flow of High-Yield Shale Gas per day.

According to Xing Shuwen, the head of the Resource Evaluation of China Geological Survey of Ministry of Land and Resources, five hydrocarbon-bearing formations were found when Hubei Yichang Reservoir Ⅰwas tested. The oldest high-yield shale gas was found in Doushantuo (a kind of stratigraphic texture the lithostratigraphic units), and its age was more than 600 million years. Meanwhile, the potential value of the high-yield gas for development was great.

Chen Xiaohong, the Li Siguang scholar of Wuhan Geological Center of China Geological Survey, introduced that the test in Hubei Yichang ReservoirⅠ, a significant breakthrough in south China, has opened up a new investigation district in the middle reach of Yangtze River. When the high-yield shale gas was firstly discovered in the middle reach of Yangtze River, the favorable area of 1,200 square kilometers was delineated. Besides, the quantity resource was predicted to reach the number of 500 billion cubic meters, which was expected to be a new basement of shale gas.
