Yuan'an Honored to Be "Hometown of Chinese Tea Culture”

  Yuan'an county and Yuan'an Yellow Tea were awarded the honorary titles of the “Hometown of Chinese Tea Culture” and “Famous Tea with Chinese culture” respectively by China International Tea Culture Institute on July 27.

  It was reported that Yuan'an Yellow Tea has a long history, and as the Saint of Tea, Lu Yu described in The Classic of Tea that “tea in Xiazhou was the best in Shannan (a place we call Xiangyang now), and Xiazhou was covered by the canyon areas of three counties of Yuan'an, Yidu and Yiling” as early as in the Tang Dynasty. During the reign of Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty, Yuan'an Yellow Tea was chosen as the tribute tea and called “strong tea”. In recent years, Yuan'an Yellow Tea was awarded these honorary titles like “National Famous Tea”, “Agriculture Expo Silver Award”, “Tea Fighting Competition of Chinese Yellow Tea Gold Award”, etc.

  Up to now, in Yuan'an, tea planting area reaches 42 thousand mu, nearly 30 thousand mu available for picking and there is over 2000 ton annual output of dried tea.(Journalist: Yang Chunyan; Correspondent: Liu Shiwei, Tao Yuan)
