On September 23, 2017 National Public Square Dance Competition in Yichang was held in the sports center. More than 500 participants from Shanxi, Xinjiang, Guizhou, Hubei and other places composing over 30 teams, entered for the competition.

　　It is reported that the competition is currently the largest square dance event with the highest level, the most audience and the widest influence, which lasts for 5 months. The first two stations took place in Wulanchabu City of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Yumen City of Gansu Province.

　　Yichang is the third station of this competition, and the top eight teams will enter in the finals which are going to be held in Lingshui Li Autonomous County of Hainan Province in November. After the fierce competition, three teams in Yichang, i.e. the Art Troupe of College Street from Xiling District, Dream Dance Fitness Team of Yichang City and Fitness Team of Longquan Street from the Yiling District, won qualification for finals.
