According to the statistics, last year, the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents in Yichang amounted to 29,593 Yuan and 14,224Yuan respectively, 1.8 times and twice that of the income in 2011. The people's income growth and car trade-in policy stimulated the growth of private car consumption. As a result, more than 150 private cars are bought on average every day.
In recent years, Yichang’s automobile market has been boosted due to the policy of “trade in purchase” and “remission in vehicle purchase tax” implemented by relevant departments. Right from January to July this year, 21,596 automobiles have been registered for tax declaration, an increase of 4,573 over the same period of last year. 10,430 automobiles with an engine capacity smaller than 1.6 liters have been registered and the tax deduction reaches 24.62 million yuan; 38 new energy vehicles have been registered 389,000, exempting the tax payment of 389,000 yuan. According to the statistics from state tax department, the numbers of vehicles that have levied are 47,804, 58,094, 61,695, 75,788 and 89,540 from 2012 to 2016, and 46,620 from January to July this year. The total number of taxed vehicle reaches 379,541.

In response to the urban parking demand, the detachment of Yichang traffic police will accelerate the construction of parking spaces without taking the sidewalks for the blind and interfering pedestrian traffic situation. 1,200 berthages will be added to ease the parking problems to some extent.
