Yichang traffic: convenient for people and smooth for goods
2017-10-20 12:18:21

Bullet trains reach many big cities directly; counties comprehensively enter the Yichang "one-hour economic circle"; directly fly abroad...In five years, our city strives to the upper and middle Yangtze River regional and integrated transport hub, basically realizing the historic leap of the relationship between transport and economy from “basic adaptation” to “overall adaptation”, to make it convenient for people and smooth for goods.

Highway main frameworks are smooth inside and extend to all directions outside. At the end of 2016, the city's total highway mileage reaches 30386 kilometers, including 683- kilometer super highway, 546 kilometers one-level highway and 2597 kilometers second-level highway. The city’s “six lines and three rings” highway main frameworks take an overall formation. The Shanghai-Chengdu and Shanghai-Chongqing super highways traverse the east and the west while the Hohhot-Beihai super highway stretches from north to south. Counties’ entering the Yichang "one-hour economic circle" has made counties access to super highways and national highways and towns access to provincial highways. The national and provincial trunk line is 3127 kilometers; the rate of high-quality roads increases from 77.6% to 91% at the end of 11th Five-Year Plan; the comprehensive level of road condition ranks the top in the whole province.

The city's main waterway has obvious advantages. The city’s inland navigation is 678 kilometers in total, of which Yangtze River trunk line waterway is 232 kilometers and grade channel accounts for 85% total channel mileage. The city’s annual port handling capacity reaches 94 million tons. The Three Gorges hub speeds up its construction and the first stages of Yunchi port, Maoping port and Baiyang port are finished and in operation. Breakthroughs have been made in channel dredging and governance. Yichang waterway advantages are becoming increasingly prominent and the Three Gorges shipping logistics center accelerates its formation.

Railway expands its network coverage and accelerates the speed. In 2012, Wuhan-Yichang intercity railway opened and took into operation, that’s when Yichang entered the era of high-speed rail. Yichang and the country's 80% large and meddle cities can realize “starting at dawn and arriving at dusk”, becoming the important transit node in East China and Central China, even in Chengdu and Chongqing areas. 36-kilometer Ziyunyao local railway is built; the total mileage of railway operations within the territory of Yichang reaches 380 kilometers; and 53-kilometer Zhengzhou-Wanzhou railway is under construction. The railway passenger volume reaches 9700 thousand and cargo volume reaches 3070 thousand tons. Yichang railway’s position as a hub in the central region becomes more and more obvious.

The air corridors spread to the whole country. The number of domestic flights in Three Gorges Airport reaches 31, spreading to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other important cities; what’s more, some international direct flights to Bangkok and South Korea are open. 2016 annual passenger throughput exceeds 150 thousand and the Three Gorges Airport gets into the national top 60. At present, the Three Gorges Airport is in expansion according to the 4E standards.

The passenger transport and logistic network are being perfected. There are a total of 92 grade passenger stations in the city, forming three large passenger hubs of the central city passenger transport hub, the surrounding city passenger depot station and passenger station in central town. The Three Gorges logistics park, the Three Gorges bonded logistics center and Aiben Logistics Park are built and under operation, forming three logistics areas of the Three Gorges dam area, main area of Yichang city, and Xiaoting-Baiyang area. Passenger transport and logistics systems of “two systems, three levels and three areas” are in basic scale. Yichang has become the hub city for regional highway transport and logistics in China.
