Hydrogen, though a kind of clean and renewable resources, is always kept at a respectful distance by ordinary users because it is flammable and combustible. With the development of technical innovation, it can now even be dissolved into a sort of special liquid and shipped in ordinary mineral water bottles. Now this special liquid will be massively produced for the first time in Yidu.
On November 11th, the municipal government in Yidu formally signed an investment agreement with Hynertech Co, Ltd.on the Hydrogen Storage Materials Project with an annual output of one million tons. This marks China’s first efficient LOHC (liquid organic hydrogen carriers) materials production base is officially located in Yidu City.
It is informed that Hynertech Co, Ltd is a first-class hydrogen energy enterprise in China, which also enjoys international reputation. According to the agreement, this company will invest three billion yuan in Yidu in the three years to construct a production project with an annual output of one million tons of hydrogen storage materials. When established, the project can achieve an annual output of one million tons of liquid organic hydrogen storage materials and ten thousand tons of catalyst. The company will be in joint efforts with Yidu to build the nation’s first demonstration city of the hydrogen energy utilization based on the technology of liquid organic hydrogen storage materials and generalize the hydrogen-based applications such as buses, logistics cars, back-up power, etc.
Hydrogen is a kind of clean and renewable energy with high energy density. Since it is difficult to be stored and transited under normal pressure and temperature, hydrogen now has not been applied in the field of energy storage and mobility on a large scale. Cheng Hansong, a distinguished professor of the nation’s first batch of Thousand Talents Program and also Chairman of Hynertech Co, Ltd Board, overcame the worldwide problem of “LOHC” in collaboration with his team, bringing a significant opportunity for the industrialization of hydrogen energy. Oil storage and catalyst, produced by the Hydrogen Storage Material Project established in Yidu, are the core materials to store and transit hydrogen energy efficiently under the normal pressure and temperature.
“In the near future, as long as cars are poured into with the liquid hydrogen compounds in the hydrogen refueling station, they can be driven by hydrogen produced in the reactor inside the car. A tank of eighty liters of hydrogen compounds can drive a car for more than five hundred kilometers”, said Chen Hansong. He also added that this kind of liquid organic hydrogen storage material has many advantages such as high density of hydrogen storage, low cost, strong reversible adsorption, great safety and stability. It is nonflammable and non-volatile, and won’t catch fire even if a match is thrown into it. When in use, the existing gas station facilities can be directly utilized. This will then substantially lower the commercialization costs of hydrogen energy technology and further promote the scale development of hydrogen energy economy.
Luo Lianfeng, the secretary of municipal Party committee in Yidu, said that new energy and new materials is one of the six pillar industries in Yidu. The successful establishment of hydrogen storage material project, with the annual output of one million tons, is an important step for Yidu to actively implement the spirit of 19th CPC National Congress, promote industrial upgrading of industrial parks and achieve innovative and green development of the traditional industries. It is also a significant carrier to develop new energy industries. The municipal government in Yidu will make every effort to play its role in project services and coordination work so as to ensure early start, early production and early output.
