Yichang Bid Farewell to Yellow-Label Vehicles
2017-11-28 10:56:05

On Nov. 21st, the Hubei Provincial Environmental Protection Commission has issued “Notification of Progress in Eliminating Yellow-Label Vehicles by October 2017”, from which the reporter learned that at least 46,668 heavily-polluting vehicles in our city had to be eliminated by the end of 2013, and 398 ones planned to be eliminated in 2017 have already been cleaned up off the road. That means by the end of October, our city has already eliminated all the yellow-label vehicles, thus becoming the first city to complete the work in Hubei Province.

According to the source parsing report of PM 2.5 in 2016 of our city, motor vehicle exhaust is a big source of pollution. The emitted pollutants are mostly concentrated in the low altitude, and the nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds (VOCs ) are important precursors of forming secondary pollutants (PM2.5, ozone, photochemical smog), which is one of the important cause of the haze weather.

To control the exhaust pollution of motor vehicles, particularly to accelerate the elimination of yellow-label vehicles has become one of the important measures in preventing and controlling air pollution in our city. In order to speed up the work of eliminating those heavily-polluting vehicles and old cars, at the end of 2014 our city issued yellow label vehicles identification standards and subsidizing schemes for elimination in advance. Great efforts have been made to address the pollution caused by vehicles, for the aim of improving the air quality.

In the future, our city will intensify efforts to control motor vehicle pollution and increase punishment based on remote sensing monitoring to find vehicles with unqualified emissions. In the meantime, more attention will be paid to supervise the vehicle-inspection departments that have cheating behaviors. More effective measures will be taken to prevent air pollution and clean up our environment. (Reporter: Yang Jing; correspondent: Xu Yongyì)
