BEIJING, Nov. 24 (Xinhua)–(Journalist Shen Cheng, Yu Jiaxin) Approved by the Tariff Commission of the State Council and submitted to the State Council for approval, China will further reduce import tariffs on some consumer goods since Dec. 1, 2017 , from an average tax of 17.3% to 7.7%, the reporter learned from Tariff Policy Department of the Ministry of Finance.
Since 2015, China has gradually lowered the import tariffs on some consumer goods such as clothing, bags, footwear, specialty foods and medicines to meet the needs of resident consumption upgrade and appropriately increase the import of general consumer goods closely connected with people’s life.
On the basis of previous tax reduction, China further cuts import tariffs on some consumer goods, covering food, health products, medicines, daily chemical products, clothing, shoes and hats, household equipment, cultural entertainment, general merchandise, and other types of consumer commodities, involving a total of 187 commodities of eight tax identification number.
Among them, the import tariffs of some cosmetics, such as lipstick, eye shadow and perfume, are reduced from 10% to 5%; the import tariffs of electric shaver and electric toothbrush reduced from 30% to 10%; the import tariffs of coffee machines and intelligent toilet seat cover reduced from 32% to 10%; the import tariffs of mineral water reduced from 20% to 10%; the import tariffs of baby diapers and diaper pants and part of the formula for infant milk powder reduced to zero.
With the development of social economy, the progress of science and technology and the change of population structure, people’s consumption demand keeps escalating, the Tariff Policy Department of the Ministry of Finance officials said. The reduction of import tariffs on consumer goods, focusing on the strong consumer demand, closely related to people’s daily life, and some high-quality products and superior products which are out of supply for a short while, will help to enrich domestic consumption choice and guide the transformation and upgrading of the domestic supply system.
