(Reporter: Zhang Yuxin; correspondent: Yang Jinxi) On November 24th, Alibaba Corporation confirms that the Pinghu Village in Dongshi Town of Zhijiang City has been designated as the first “Taobao Village” in Yichang City. On December 6th, the organizing committee will grant a nameplate for Pinghu Village on the 5th China “Taobao Village” Summit Forum.

Pinghu Village is mainly inhabited by migrants, who take up more than 60% of the total number of villagers. In recent years, Pinghu Village, having seized the opportunity of building Zhijiang City into a national-level model city for E-commerce, vigorously pushes forward the development of E-commerce in the village. Efforts have been made to build high standard village of E-commerce entrepreneurship center and actively guide the villagers to develop E-commerce. Currently more than 300 villagers are engaged in E-commerce, with over 110 Taotao stores opened online. An “E-Commerce Street” has been formed in Pinghu Village, with the annual cumulative turnover exceeding 12.5 million yuan. In 2016, Pinghu Village successfully conducted cooperation with Zhijiang Wanduoshidai Commercial and Trading Co., Ltd... Under the leadership of the Corporation, the scattered Taobao households have been united and thus form the aggregation effect and enter the market as a whole. The company provides technical support of training and store operations for villagers; meanwhile villagers sell products for the company. This is the win-win cooperation. At present, the main products of the company sold online are local specialties and “Beibei Bear” series products. The company has hired more than 200 people in the surrounding area, with its annual sales exceeding 10 million yuan. It has undoubtedly become the leader for the development of Pinghu E-commerce.

Li Chengyan, a villager from Pinghu Village, used to work in Shanghai. Thus she was unable to look after her children who were left at home. Having seen the rapid development of the E-commerce industry in the village, she decided to come to her hometown and opened a Taobao shop online. This not only increases her annual income but also enables her to spend more time staying with her own family. She feels much happier than ever.
