The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD) held a symposium on the pilot project of theoldCommunitiestransformation on December 1st in Xiamen, FujianProvince, where15 old communitieswere announced as pilot cities, and Yichang was the only listedcity in Hubei Province. LuJun,Deputy Mayor of Yichang City attended the meeting.

　　It was reported that, Yichang City has previously achieved much in renovation of the building facades and has been listed as a "National Model City of Social Development" for three times consecutively during the past years, on the basis of which the old communities were classified into three different types for maintenance with general renovation, improvement and reconstruction with characteristics, and the renovation has been implemented effectively through demolishing the unapproved constructions and improving the infrastructures including drainage system, wiring of electricity and communications cables, zoning of parking areas, road conditions, greening and public passageway lighting ,and standardizing the management and equipment of supporting facilities associated with the cultural life, livelihood and property of the communities, with 89 projects completed and 39 ones in construction at present.(Correspondent Zhouchun and Reporter Zhuhong)
