As it is turning cold, people have to put on winter clothes when they go out. Nevertheless, their great passion for fitness activities, such as qigong, riding, swimming and long-distance race, has never waned in winter. For several days, the Municipal Sports Bureau have been organizing many scientific fitness activities in communities and on campus successively, offering professional care for public health.
Early in the morning of December 5th, the fitness square in the Guoyuanlu community of Yunji sub-district office in Xiling district was crowded and boisterous since the community residents were busy to consult the community PE instructor and fitness experts on how to do exercises scientifically regardless of the low temperature. Questions they had asked were “Can we lose weight by running?”, “What is the proper amount of exercise on a weekly basis?”, “How can I avoid knee injuries when riding bicycles?”, “Can I practice shadowboxing with poor body flexibility?” etc. On the very day, Yichang Community Activities of Scientific Fitness in 2017 were initiated in Guoyuanlu community with the theme of “Scientific Fitness, Lifelong Happiness”.
On December 7th, the opening ceremony of 2017 National Youth Science Fitness Popularization Activities in Hubei was then held in Yichang Foreign Language School, attracting more than 2000 teachers and students from 24 primary and secondary schools to attend it. Wei Yili, the world champion of badminton called on teenagers themselves to exercise scientifically. He instructed teenagers to form healthy lifestyles and cultivate physical exercise hobbies and lifelong habits for them. All this helped to strengthen their physique.
Meanwhile, several other competitions will make nation-wide fitness much “hotter” in this winter such as the 31st Crossing the Yangtze River Winter Activity, "South-exhibition and North-ice" Strategy – National Rotary Ice Trials, and the 34th Long-distance Race on the New Year’s Day etc..
Link: Tips for winter sports
Yichang Physical Fitness Surveillance Center has offered several tips for citizen sports in winter. Strenuous anaerobic exercise may lead to physical discomfort and even sport injuries in the cold weather. Therefore, it is imperative to choose the aerobic exercises that require small moves and many calories. For example, young people can do high impact aerobics like running while the middle-aged ones are advised of the low impact aerobics such as brisk walking, jogging and climbing stairs. For the elderly, they had better do sports like walking, yoga, shadow boxing. Besides, indoor activities such as Ping Pong ball and badminton are also good choices for them.
