On December 15th, under the active promotion of the Municipal Personnel Management Office and the Municipal First People’s Hospital, Professor Ji Linhong’s Yichang Studio was formally established in Yichang. He teaches at the Department of Mechanical Engineering in Tsinghua University.

　　It is reported that Ji Linhong was admitted to Tsinghua University after his graduation from Yiling High School in 1980. He once studied and worked at University of Tokyo and now is the director of the Mechanical Engineering Experiment Teaching Center of Tsinghua University and has become a leading researcher in the field of mechanical design and biological machinery in the world. In the famous national “973” “863” and other major projects, he has been undertaking several important tasks and has gained very profound academic attainments, especially in the biological mechanical system and rehabilitation engineering technology. And the national research projects he has undertaken such as human body movement balance mechanism and its application in the control of lower extremity artificial limbs have had widespread influence and found successful applications.

　　The head of the Municipal Personnel Management Office said that the establishment of the studio reflects the professor’s love for his hometown and his concern over its medical development. The establishment is not only a joyous occasion for the city’s medical and health services, but also a great event in the city’s talent recruitment work. It bears great significance in further consolidating the wisdom and strength of the leading talent in medical care, especially in rehabilitation and in accelerating the implementation of the healthy Yichang strategy.

　　In recent years, the Municipal Personnel Management Office and the Organization Department of Municipal Party Committee have implemented in earnest the relevant policies on talent entrepreneurship and innovation advocated by the Municipal Party Committee and the City Government, persisting in introducing high-end talents through the construction of studios for academicians and experts, and actively contacting academicians and professors so that they may work at the studios to carry out scientific and technological innovation and research, and conduct cooperation. At present, 45 studios have been set up for academicians and experts in the city, 24 for academicians and 21 for experts. Many national high-level talents have been attracted to Yichang to found their work stations, such as two academicians Gu Desheng and Zheng Shouren from Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Li Bailian from American Academy of Anthropology and Ecology and American Academy of Sciences. For in-depth cooperation with the winner of 2006 Nobel Prize in Physics George Smoot, the establishment of a “Nobel Prize Winner Work Station” in the Municipal Central Hospital, for first time in Hubei province, has effectively enhanced the local medical research and development and medical technology. Since the setup of such workstations (or studios), so far, 29 academician or expert workstations have obtained such provincial project funding and incentives as “Six One Hundred” Project, “Dual Employment & Double Secondment” Project, and the provincial CAST outstanding achievement transformation prize, getting a total of more than 120 million yuan as national, provincial and municipal funds or bonus.

　　It is understood that Professor Ji Linhong’s Yichang studio, listed in the Municipal First People’s Hospital, will give the hospital strong support and guidance in the field of neurology and rehabilitation medicine, so as to bring benefit to more local citizens. (Correspondent: Yu Jianglin)
