Recently, the State Forestry Administration issued a notice that the propose application for the establishment of Jiuwanxi National Wetland Park in Zigui, Hubei province (pilot project) had passed expert’s field investigation and demonstration and expert review to enter the public stage. So far, the National Wetland Park in Yichang has increased to 8.
Located in the south bank of Xiling Gorge of Three Gorges of Yangtze River and the west of new county of Zigui, Yichang, Jiuwanxi scenic area is the national 4A level scenic area, which is known as “the back garden of Zigui” and “the Little Guilin in Zigui”. In this area there are beautiful waters and mysterious hills with beautiful scenery. According to stretch of river, there are four rivers, including Sandu River, Linjia River, Laolin River, and Jiuwanxi River, which is collectively called Jiuwanxi. The place where the stream passes through is dominated by canyons and karst landforms. The scenery on both banks of the river is unique and beautiful. Being one of the ten scenes of the new Three Gorges, most of the areas are sparsely populated with good ecological environment, forming many distinctive landscapes.
The Jiuwanxi National Wetland Park in Zigui (pilot project), as planned, with the total area of 702 hectares and a wetland area of 310 hectares, will effectively protect Jiuwanxi wetland ecosystem and ensure the ecological security in Yangtze River Basin, providing an ideal habit for rare and endangered plants and animals. It will also become an ecological space for the public to know the nature from the perspective of science as well as offer them a change to relax and enjoy the beautiful views.
