On January 2th, the Office of the Leading Group for Prevention and Control of Atmospheric Pollution in Yichang held a media briefing to release the latest achievements in improving the ambient air quality in urban areas. Through the joint efforts of the whole city, the quality of ambient air has been improved year by year. In 2017, all the objectives and tasks of the work in air pollution prevention have been accomplished successfully and the first phase of "ten measures for air pollution prevention" has been fully completed.
Tests showed that in 2017, the density of PM10, PM2.5 and the rate of good air quality day in our city were 88 micrograms per cubic meter, 58 micrograms per cubic meter and 70.7% respectively. All these three indicators exceeded the annual assessment targets set by the provincial government. Among them, the density of PM10 dropped by 19.3% compared with that in 2013, surpassing the assessment targets of "ten measures for air pollution prevention", which means that the average concentration of PM10 in 2017 would drop 15% compared with 2013, issued by the provincial government.
In 2017, our city enjoyed good air quality for 258 days, compared with 2014, the number of good air quality days increased by 82 days, with 46.6% growing rate. Among them, the number of excellent air quality days increased by 47 days. At the same time, the number of heavily and severely polluted days dropped drastically, only 14 days in 2017 and a 72% decrease compared with 2014.
In 2017, six major pollutants indexes of the city's environmental air quality, except ozone, continued to decline. Among them, the indexes of sulfur dioxide and PM2.5 dropped significantly, showing a decline of 78.6% and 37.6% respectively compared with those in 2014. And the indexes of Sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, ozone and carbon monoxide reached the air environment quality level-2 standard. (Reporter: Yang Jing; Correspondent: Luo Jitao, Li Yu)
