The results of the fifth (2017) national campaign of “CCTV Looking for China’s Most Beautiful Villages” was announced in Handan City, Hebei Province on December 27, 2017. Together with the other 14 villages in China, Niuzhuang Village of Niuzhuang Town, Wufeng Tujia Autonomous County was nominated for “China’s Most Beautiful Villages” and it is the only nominated village in Hubei Province.
The campaign focused on “telling the beautiful rural stories and displaying the new characteristics of the countryside”. The appraisal panel fully agreed to nominate Niuzhuang Village as one of “China's Most Beautiful Village” of 2017, for the outstanding mode of the beautiful village construction of Niuzhuang Village and its demonstrative effect, which contributes to building a village characterized by "prosperous industry, ecologically livable, civilized atmosphere, effective governance and affluent life".
Niuzhuang Village is located at the top of the mountain surrounded by forests with the forest coverage rate of 85%. It is a rare summer resort in Central China, with alpine wetlands 1,900 meters above sea level, well preserved and mysterious original forest tribes as well as national rare animals and plants such as Davidian involucrate, Tragopan temminckii and black bear. The village boasts profundity of cultural heritage and simple folkway, as can be demonstrated by Luo Guanzhang, a “National Outstanding CPC Member” and “Outstanding Contributor to Poverty Alleviation”. Also it is featured by its ethnic folk culture, such as the funeral dance, Tang drama, flower-drum dance and Haocao Luogu (weeding gongs and drums performance). Besides, the provincial intangible cultural heritage (Southern Opera) base was established in the village; and there is a team of over 100 members for folk cultural inheritance and promotion.
As the center of Niuzhuang Town, the village has recently made great efforts to use its unique resources and climate to develop itself into an “ecological and tourism village”, supported by the project of “Protection and Development of Villages with Characteristics of Ethnic Minorities”, and endeavored to explore and inherit the regional folk resources of ethnic characteristics for the development of the industry of “Sports plus Health Rehabilitation”. Now the village is devoted to building the town into a comprehensive basis of quality education for teenagers, summer recreation, folk-custom culture education and gratitude education in central China with its unique natural resources.
Nowadays, the Niuzhuang Village is attractive with its abundance of folk customs and convenience of broad tourism roads, and the villagers take advantage of the development of the base of medical herbs and the unique charm of the village as a place of summer recreation and tourism towards a well-off life.
