On April 18th, the opening ceremony of the “Scholarly Yichang—Reading Month for All People” event and the third session of reading festival themed “Beautiful Yiling and All People Reading” are held in Pinghu Theatre Square in Yiling District.

　　At the launching ceremony, Xiaoting District and Zhijiang City are dubbed “a County of Avid Readers (City, District) in 2017-2018”, and twenty departments such as Toubi Community Farming House in Lucheng Street of Yidu City, are designated as “National Reading Demonstration Base”. The leading group of National Reading Activity in Yichang City hopes that these praised counties (cities, districts) and organizations will continue to make efforts to serve as role models in further promoting reading activities by exploring new practices, seeking new breakthroughs, and creating new experience.

　　It’s learned that “The Survey on the Reading Situation of Yichang Residents” has been done in January of this year to fully understand the reading situation and promote the effective development of reading activities for all citizens in the city. The survey found that the total reading index of Yichang residents in 2017 was 74.23 points. There are 6 counties (cities, districts) with reading index above the average level of the city, including Xiling District, Wujiagang District, Yiling District, Yiling District, Dangyang City and Zigui County, ranking from high to low.

　　According to the reports, the theme of this year’s National Reading Month is “Promoting Reading among All People, Creating a Scholarly Yichang”, which lasted for one month. The activity of “Scholarly Yichang–Reading Month for All People” will contain a series of reading theme activities, including the 3rd recital art competition of “Poetic Yichang, to the Faraway Place”; The award of community reading for all citizens and the “Most Active Community in Promoting Reading”; the Three Gorges Cultural Forum–Celebrity Rostrum & the Seminar of World Reading Day; the World Reading Day on “April 23rd” & the China Three Gorges University Reading Promotion Week of 2018; the second “Pleasure Reading” theme reading activities; the voice of reading exhibition in Hi-tech and New District; “You Read, I Buy” culture activities; “World Reading Day” recitation activities; Celebrity’s book signing and selling activities; the city Xinhua Bookstore Bestsellers Exhibition and “Jingchu Book Festival” outdoor book promotion and exhibition activities; “Scholarly Yichang to You” voice reading pavilions, etc.

　　In recent years, our city has thoroughly implemented the “Measures for All-People Reading Promotion in Hubei Province” and the “Three-year All-People Reading Action Plan in Hubei Province”, so as to build a “Three-network in One City” reading system and strive to build a “city of reading”, which has achieved outstanding results. Fifty-one groups and individuals won the honors during the all-people reading activity in Hubei Province.
