According to the news of Xinhua Agency, the ecological operation test for the breeding and spawning of “Four Famous Domestic Fishes” has been started at Three Gorges Reservoir on May 19th.

　　It is learnt that appropriate water temperature and water-rising level are needed for the breeding and spawning of “Four Famous Domestic Fishes” including herring, grass carp, chub and bighead carp. At present, the water temperature of the river section from Yichang to Jianli has been moderate for the spawning of “Four Famous Domestic Fishes”, reaching 20 degrees Celsius. However, due to the changed flood regularity caused by the impoundment of TGD, it is necessary to artificially keep the water rising to create suitable water flow conditions for breeding fish.

　　During the ecological operation test, the relevant units will monitor the fishes of early life history stages, breeding groups, and hydrological and environmental elements on the monitoring sections of Yidu City, Zhijiang City, Shashi District and Jianli County. Since 2011, the Three Gorges Reservoir has carried out 10 ecological operation tests for seven consecutive years.
