It is informed from Yichang Weather Bureau on May 25th that rainfalls during the plum rain season from June 1st to July 20th is estimated to be 10% less than that of the historical period with higher overall temperature and more high temperature days, reaching 38 to 40 degree Celsius of extreme highest temperature in midsummer days. The plum rain period in this year will come in the late mid-June and go on until the early mid-July. The beginning time is later than that of the historical period while the ending time is similar with four times of precipitation, which will lead to a local average flooding in certain areas.
Yichang Weather Bureau suggests that great attention must be paid to preventing secondary disasters caused by heavy rains in the these rainy days such as medium and small rivers floods, mountain torrents, geological disasters and urban and rural water logging; An eye must be kept on the possible periodic droughts and heat injury after the rainy period, on strengthening water holding capacity and on drought-resisting water resources, power dispatching and heatstroke prevention; and care must be taken of impact of sudden and local severe convective weather like thunder, gale and short-time strong rainfalls.
