For the coming Dragon Boat Festival, folk scene opera Dragon Boat Festival, which was created by Zigui County, was presented at Mei Lanfang Theater in Beijing on Jun. 3rd. (Correspondent Zhen Jiayu, Zhou Huashan, Journalist He Jiabao)

　　The play consists of four parts: sacrifice of sun god and the beginning of Dragon Boat Festival—the sentiment of the mountains and Dragon Boat Festival—the affection of Yangtze River and the end of Dragon Boat Festival—the feelings of the earth. Based on the theme of profound Qu Yuan and Dragon Boat Festival culture, the main elements are dragon boat race, sacrifice of Qu Yuan, poetry forum, and the affection of Zongzi (rice dumpling). Through professional stage performances and original ecological scene reproduction, the unique and distinctive features of the Dragon Boat Festival cultural elements in Zigui are most vividly displayed by integrated into original cultural symbols of Three Gorges such as Flower Drum Song and Yang LinTanggu (Medium-sized Barrel Drum) etc.

　　The Dragon Boat Festival, which was listed on the representative list of human intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2009, is a traditional Chinese festival. The unique customs of Zigui “Celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival for three times” and “Dragon Boat Festival is more important than the New Year” are one of the main contents of the successful declaration of the World Intangible Cultural Heritage. Dragon Boat Festival presents the Dragon Boat Festival culture of Zigui from three different artistic perspectives: the sentiment of the mountains, the affection of Yangtze River, and the feelings of the earth, which is either sad or happy, or new or odd, or the national righteousness or country deep love, all in the play.

　　As the hometown of Qu Yuan, a famous historical and cultural celebrity and great patriotic poet, Zigui has a long history of inheriting the unique Dragon Boat Festival. For thousands of years, the offspring of Qu Yuan has combined his spirit of patriotism with the traditional custom of Dragon Boat Festival and made the Dragon Boat Festival become an important part of China’s excellent traditional culture with rich patriotism and magnificent poetic color. In the traditional custom of “Dragon Boat Festival is more important than the New Year”, Dragon Boat Festival in Qu Yuan’s hometown is hold in Zigui every year. People hold the game of chanting poetry, wrapping up Zongzi, hanging wormwood, making sachet, wiping realgar. However, various colorful festivals will be carried out for a whole month, of which the most impressive events are dragon boat race and Dragon Boat Festival sacrifice .
