On June 8, the second agricultural carnival, organized by Yichang Municipal Agriculture Bureau, is opened to the public for free at Yichang Modern Agriculture Exhibition Center in Maojiadian Village, Tucheng Town, Dianjun District. After half year’s intense preparations, 10,000 "new and unique" crops and a variety of agricultural high-tech that subvert traditional planting concepts have been unveiled. At about 10 a.m., the reporters followedthe first group of tourists into the park.

　　The six display stands for agricultural products at the entrance attractedmany people. "This tomato is not as thick as my thumb!” Shao, who showedher granddaughter around, said sowhen she comparedher thumb witha small, short tomato. Han Yuping, director of Vegetables Research Institute, Yichang Municipal Academy of Agricultural Sciences for thevarietybreeding,introduced thatthis is a new tomato variety with only 1.5cm in diameter, which can be planted in a familypot.The tomato has diversecolors ofred, yellow, and violet. What’s more, theyare really sweet. Under her leading, we were also the first to taste the gourd shaped mandarin duck pear, the pear-shaped green tomato, the African cucumis metuliferusand other dozens of novel melons and fruit.This trip feasted both our mouthsand our eyes. In the park, there are the vegetablesgarden,the flowers garden,the orchard, herbalsgarden, intelligent greenhouse showcasing the crops growth process from seed or seedlings to the fruit, which tells the story behind the deliciousfruits. The reporterssawa lot of interestingthings in the all-year-round intelligent greenhouse: lettuce seedlings put on "ferris wheel" type water-culture planter, whichcan ensure these seedlings get water, nutrient and illumination equably; Honeydew melons, eggplantsand peppersplanted in the pot with coco coir,taking root without soil, by which the farming efficiency and product quality have been greatly improved. Besides, hydroponic vegetables are cultivated on the water while feeding fish underwater. This symbiotic systemmakes it a reality that fish farming does not exchange water and vegetable planting does not use soil orfertilizer.
