July 14 has witnessed in Wuhan the opening ceremony of Hubei Three Gorges and Tujia Culture Camp, part of the 2018 Overseas Chinese Teenagers "Seeking Roots Journey in China" Summer Camp. More than 90 overseas Chinese Teenagers from the United States, Canada, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and other countries will spend more than 10 days of study life in Hubei to get a feel for the Jingchu Culture (part of Chinese civilization). The camp is hosted by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, and undertaken by the Foreign Affairs Office of Hubei Province, China University of Geo sciences (Wuhan), Yichang Foreign Affairs Office, and China Three Gorges University. Feng Xiguo, deputy director of the Hubei Foreign Affairs Office, and Lai Xulong, vice president of China University of Geo sciences, attended the opening ceremony,awarded the camp banner to the campers, and announced the official start of the camp.
At the ceremony, Feng Xiguo expressed his hope that this “root-seeking journey”could help the campers find the “root” of the spirit,language and culture of the Chinese nation, realize the splendid civilization of the Chinese nation and enjoy the beautiful scenery, and feel the prosperity of China and the development of Hubei Province. He also hoped that the campers could enhance their national pride to continue to inherit Chinese culture and enhance their competitiveness so as to become the backbone of the overseas Chinese community in the future and to promote the communication between Chinese culture and other cultures.
Jing Jing, a teacher from the Confucius Institute in Barcelona, Spain, and Qian Beiya, a Chinese school student from the Dutch Chinese Professional Association, made speeches as the leader of the campers and camper representative respectively. Jing Jing introduced the design background of the Chinese flag and the Chinese national anthem. The teacher, on the basis of the history of Hubei and Wuhan and their cultural landscapes, stressed that Hubei is a land of heroes and also a beautiful and elegant one, with her people very intelligent and indomitable, and hoped that the campers will cherish this opportunity, experience the prosperity and strength of China in the event, and get a close touch of the vitality of China.
In the camp activity, the campers will attend lectures on science knowledge and the Three Gorges culture, accept training in calligraphy, Bashan dancing, Chinese painting, paper-cutting, traditional martial arts, folk songs, etc., and visit such cultural attractions as Hubei Provincial Museum, Yellow Crane Tower, Three Gorges Dam and Chexi, while receiving extension training.
